LITTERS

Next Litter // Planned for late 2025

CJ x Swan

Puppies with purpose

Our goal is the preservation of the historical function of the Dalmatian. We only breed dogs worthy of having their genetics preserved. Occasionally, there will be puppies available to share with others.

All Sires and Dams are evaluated and proven for the following:
  •  HEALTH | All parents receive the full recommended health testing by the DCA and have CHIC numbers with ALL results made public.
  •  TEMPERAMENT | We strive to create well-balanced puppies suitable for working alongside horses. At least one parent is proven in the DCA Road Trials and/or AHBA herding trials.
  • STRUCTURE | Proper structure is important for performing the historical coaching job. Angulation should not be overly-done and movement should be fluid, but not flashy or over-reaching. Dalmatians should have good size and substance. Parents have conformation titles with AKC, IABCA and/or FCI.

 HEALTH
GUARANTEE

We do our best to breed the healthiest dogs possible. No dogs are perfect. We are upfront and honest with anything that can appear in the lines and/or in the breed. Ample information is provided to puppy buyers to take to their primary care veterinarian.

Puppies are guaranteed against the health problems we can test for. If they do happen to get sick with one of the covered ailments, we pay for it and refund the money you spent to purchase your puppy.

LIFETIME
SUPPORT

We offer lifetime support for your puppy with nearly 24/7 availability plus a private message board for Outrider puppy owners.

We will happily take back a puppy/dog that doesn't work out for you at ANY point in its life, for any reason, with no judgement and NO QUESTIONS ASKED. We are also happy to temporarily keep any Outrider dog during extended vacations, deployments or any temporary situation or hardship.

CASH BACK
REWARDS

We encourage puppy owners to earn titles by giving you cash back for each eligible title.

If you earn enough titles, your puppy could end up being FREE! Rewarded sports include Road Trial, IGP, Obedience, and Herding.

Cash back rewards are also given for obtaining your puppy's CHIC number or participating in health research, even if you're not planning on breeding.

Purpose-bred means purpose-placed

We do not breed dogs regularly. Purpose-bred means we are breeding for ourselves FIRST and only breeding when there is something we want. Extra puppies from the litter are what we are able to share with those who join us in the enjoyment and utility of the breed's historical function. As a preservation breeder, we do not breed for money. As such, litters are not born frequently to fill the demand for others. The average waiting time will be 2+ years. If we don't have a reason to breed for ourselves, we simply do not breed.

Before being placed, all puppies are evaluated for the following:
  • HEARING using an official BAER test by a board-certified canine-neurologist.
  • STRUCTURE by a group of experienced breeders with combined experience of well over 100 years in the breed.
  • TEMPERAMENT tested at around 7-9 weeks of age using the Volhard PAT (Puppy Aptitude Test).
  • HEALTH checked, vaccinated and wormed by a local licensed veterinarian. All puppies will receive health certificates and microchips.

YOU WILL NOT PICK OUT YOUR OWN PUPPY
Outrider puppies are placed according to best fit based on your goals. You may come visit the puppies as they grow, however you will get the puppy we decide fits you the best. As the breeder, we spend the most time with them so we know their personality the best. The puppy that's quiet when you're visiting for an hour, may actually be the spitfire of the litter. The fit will be determined based on your answers to the extensive application questionnaire submitted. Be honest as possible to ensure the best placement.

Additional breeding practices:
Outrider dogs are not bred for fad colors. Most of our dogs will be black since that is statistically the healthiest of the colors. If you want any other color, go somewhere else. We do not take requests for colors (other than black), non-standard marking patterns, blue eyes, patches, etc.

At this time, we do not breed LUA dogs. We may reevaluate our stance on it. However, at this time, they're largely not the correct temperament/type for our goals, so they're not included in the program. As, such Outrider puppies will have specific diet requirements. If you're not willing to follow our diet recommendations, go get a dog somewhere else.

No puppies are placed before 9 weeks of age since temperament, structure and working ability evaluations are not conduced until they are 7-8 weeks old. Puppies are all raised with the Puppy Culture program.

At this time, puppies will not be shipped or delivered via 3rd party courier/service within the US. If you want an Outrider puppy and you live in the United States, you, or a member of your household, must arrange to come collect it. If you're flying, we will bring the puppy to MEM for you and provide the pet carrier and all air travel essentials. International shipping available only to well-established Dalmatian breeders.

Puppy Cost

$3,000 for DCA or local club members
$5,000 for non-club members

AKC registration is included in cost.

Vertical Divider

Obtaining money is not the objective of the Outrider breeding program. The primary objective is the historical preservation of the Dalmatian. However, offsetting some of the cost involved in responsible breeding does make it easier to work toward our goals of preserving the breed.

If you're an active member in good standing of the DCA or one of your local canine breed/all-breed/sport clubs, any equestrian clubs or 4H clubs, you will receive a large discount on the upfront purchase price.

The ideal Outrider puppy home

Outrider puppies are purpose-bred dogs. They are bred to excel in horsemanship and sport versatility.
Outrider puppies are ideal for the following types of families:
  • Conformation show/breeder
  • Canine performance sports home
  • Equestrian/farm home
  • Distance jogger/runner/hiker/active family home

Outrider puppies are not suitable for most "pet" homes. If you are looking for a house pet that sits on your lap all day and doesn't require a regular job/activity, look somewhere else. Outrider dogs need owners who will commit to regular training for at least the first 3-4 years of age and they need regular sport/job outlet. They can be great with kids and thrive in active households (with activity that is "dog friendly/focused") who will give them lots of attention, exercise, and set clear boundaries/expectations of behavior. They are not suitable for families/owners that have not had a high drive dog breed/Dalmatian before. That said, there will occasionally be a low drive puppy suitable as a lazier "pet" in a litter; however, since that is not the goal of the program, please understand that those puppies will be rare and you could wait a LONG time. Older dogs suitable for "pet" home may be available on occasion. If you're interested in a house pet, consider applying for a dog over the age of 2 years old. Note that Outrider puppies will also mostly be unsuitable for use as therapy dogs or service dogs. Outrider dogs will also not be suitable for any group play activities including dog parks or doggie daycare.

Minimum Requirement (for all households)
If you plan to purchase an Outrider puppy, you will be required to complete and pass at least one formal basic/beginner obedience group session (5+ week duration) before the puppy is 8 months old. Board and train programs are not acceptable to meet this requirement. Make sure you have a trainer located in your area before applying to purchase a puppy. (I'd highly encourage each person in the family (over 8yrs old) to complete a full 5+ week session with the puppy so everyone in the household understands how to work with the puppy and the puppy has respect for everyone in return. It's perfectly fine, and actually extremely beneficial, for the puppy to go through the same class 3-4 times, if needed.)

Waitlist Priority
A space on the waitlist does not guarantee a puppy. This is why we do not accept deposits. The puppies are placed by "best fit" and not by who has been waiting longest. Priority will go to those participating in Road Trial, IGP/IPO, competition obedience and/or herding. There is no guarantee a puppy will fit you in each litter. If you can not wait for a puppy, you are not obligated to remain on the waitlist and can be removed at any time. Passing on a puppy that is offered to you will never affect your status on the waitlist for future litters. We understand situations change in time and perhaps that specific time isn't right for your situation. You can pass on several and remain on the waitlist, if you choose. We do not ever want someone to feel pressured to take a puppy when the time isn't right for them.

Join the Club
If you're a member of the DCA (Dalmatian Club of America) in good standing or an active member of a local canine all-breed or conformation/sport club, Dalmatian/Non-sporting specialty club, any equestrian club or 4H club, you'll get a discount on purchase price and placement preference. Additionally, DCA members will get full registration without one of us listed as a co-owner. All non-DCA members will have one of us added to the paperwork as the co-owner.
